Sensor controlled LED-lighting technology for the entire street lighting
The municipality of the city of Tuningen in Baden-Wuerttemberg was the first in Germany to switch its street lighting completely to sensor controlled LED-lighting technology. The municpality cooperated exemplary with:
A local energy utility
The lighting specialist hess ltd.
A housing technology company
Short description of the technical lighting system
LED luminaire heads of the lighting specialists HESS, types MADRID and NEWYORK
MADRID luminaire heads: flexible LED module LEVO by Hess, the LEDs are located on a removable board, a large multi-lens for light guidance summarizes the light together and supports a rapid and uniform heat dissipation of the LEDs, which leads to long LED life cycles.
NEWYORK luminaire heads: the RAP LED module consists of a complete system: from LEDs
via the reflector up to the light control, specially arranged facetted reflectors ensure that the light of the high-power LEDs extensively and evenly illuminates roads and places
Integrated dimming system DIMPro with motion detector also allows for automatic and demand-oriented regulation of lights, which are connected via built-in antennas and a wireless network
Control of lighting via a PC software
It’s an interesting case as it provides good ideas about cooperation models and helps to formulate recommendations for lighting planning in the public sector. Furthermore it shows that the combination of integrated lighting-management systems and LED-technology leads to very large energy and cost savings. The Intelligent LED lighting reduces the yearly energy consumption for street lighting by 82%. 120.000 Euro funding was received from the The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
